INTRODUCTION
GKN Aerospace Engineering Services (GKNAES) opened in Australia on 1st August 2001 to service the global demand for engineering services in the aerospace and defence industries.  Headquartered in the aerospace precinct of Fisherman's Bend in Port Melbourne and with engineering offices in Sydney and Brisbane,the Australian operation has undergone strong growth since inception and total staffing now exceeds 270 people.

 

CAPABILITY
GKNAES has a full range of capabilities in airframe structural analysis and design, electrical engineering and systems installation design.  This aerospace engineering capability is based on an experienced team with a proven background in design approval, systems integration and certification.

Collectively, the engineering staff at GKNAES has experience with over 160 different aircraft types including strike/fighter aircraft, military transport aircraft, trainers, helicopters, commercial jets and turboprops, UAV's and decoys, missiles, rockets and satellites.

In addition to its core engineering capability, GKNAES is at the forefront of Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) which enables the structured capture of repetitive engineering processes for the development of applications that reduce cost and time scales while increasing consistency.

GKNAES also specialises in the development of systems and tools to support task packaging for remote discharge of customer work through exploitation of local time zones to efficiently use 'Follow the Sun' engineering processes in working with global partners and other members of the global GKN group.

  • Integrated design and stress analysis activities with Northrop Grumman on JSF F-35 aircraft
