The Type 45 Anti Air Warfare Destroyer, will in concert with the Future Aircraft Carrier (CVF), provide the backbone of the Royal Navy's air defences for much of the first half of the 21st century. The destroyer, for which BAE SYSTEMS is the prime contractor, will be designed and built in collaboration with strategic partners such as VT Shipbuilding as a direct replacement for the Class 42 destroyers. Six T45 destroyers are currently on order with the first of class due to enter service in 2007.
